Short TermMedical Insurance
Provides temporary coverage for unexpected medical expenses when you need it — from 1 month up to 36 months (depending on the plan and state).

How Short-Term Plans Work
-
Temporary Coverage
Plans are designed for a limited period — from 1 month up to 36 months. Available terms and renewal options vary by plan and state.
-
Medical Underwriting
Unlike ACA Marketplace plans, you must answer medical questions to qualify, and insurers can deny coverage or charge more based on your health history.
-
Pre-existing Conditions
These policies generally do not cover medical issues you already have before the plan starts.
-
Typical Inclusions
Emergency room visits, urgent care, doctor office visits, and some hospitalization or prescription discounts.
-
Common Exclusions
Maternity care, mental health services, preventive care, vision, dental, and full prescription drug benefits are often limited or excluded.
-
Non-ACA Compliant
Short-term plans don’t have to follow many ACA consumer protections, so they can set annual or lifetime dollar limits, and they aren’t eligible for Marketplace savings.
